Finally, another franchise over and another killer entry to put into the Kill Comparisons. This entry is pretty divisive. Some fans love this movie, some fans hate it. Most of which who don’t like it are fans of the original 80’s films. Personally, I love this movie AND I’m a fan of the 80’s sequels. Those are the movies I grew up with, what’s not to love?
This movie takes the series in a very serious approach though and is brutal, intense, and at times actually scary. This movie introduces us to survivalist Jason, certainly the scariest iteration of all. Played to by what I feel is perfection by Derek Mears, a stunt man with alopecia who felt he actually resembled the original concepts of Jason Voorhees. We also have some of the humor that is present in the old ones. This isn’t my all time favorites, mostly due to personal nostalgia, but this is certainly the best made Friday film as it takes the best of the first 4 movies and puts it in a blazing fast narrative. I honestly hope the next film we get is a sequel to this and we get more Mears in the role. I’ll be putting up a ranking video sometime or another, don’t be too surprised if this is in at least my top 3. Granted this film does do that stupid child psychology bit from part 2 again.
Also, we’re closing the franchise for now with this one, so the totals will include everything from Pamela and Jason and will be what I base my kills analysis from. We already know that Jason beats Jigsaw hands down, but how does he fare against the current champ in Michael Myers? Only one way to find out.
The Kills
- Wade – Slashed with a machete. Looks like he got his ear taken off too. For the first kill in the entry where torture porn is the norm, this isn’t bad for an offscreen kill.
- Amanda – Roasted over an open fire in her sleeping bag.
- Richie – Gets a machete driven down through his forehead. The boot to the face is a great touch.
- Donnie – Gets his throat slit with a machete. Considering his girlfriend was a mannequin I’m not sure he’s that worse off.
- Nolan – Gets shot in the head with an arrow. Survivalist Jason needs to enter some competitions, that looks like a rough shot with a rifle little less a BOW AND ARROW.
- Chelsea – Stabbed in the top of her head with a machete. I honestly thought she was going to die Sleepaway Camp style after getting hit with that boat too, but lucky for us we get to see Jason add one more to his tally.
- Chewie – Gets stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver.
- Lawrence – Gets impaled onto axe blade that was thrown into his back. I mean he’s that good with arrows, might as well have them axe skills at level 100.
- Bree – Pulls a Billy and impales her on some antlers. Speaking of which, I really want to get something out for Christmas and while I was hoping for Violent Night to be out to stream by then I’m just not sure it’s going to make it this year…
- Officer Brake – Stabs through the eye and through another side of the door with a firepoker. Jason almost got a 3fer with that one.
- Trent – Gets impaled on a bale spike. You really spend the movie hating him until he lets out a scream almost comparable to Reggie the Reckless in Part V. Almost. Now I just feel sorry for the guy.
- Jenna – Stabbed through the back with a machete. What, you thought she was going to be the last alive? Clay’s getting those Padalecki bucks for a reason, gotta live on to make season 29 of Supernatural!
Conclusion
