Ok, finally getting into the meat and potatoes of the franchise where I can start comparing films. Just a reminder, I’m only going to be looking at Jason until part 5 where I’ll throw some Roy in, but I’ll do the full comparison with the 2009 remake. I’m going to enjoy this one in particular, as the 3rd and 4th movies were some of the very first horror movies I watched as a young child. And I mean young. My son played Cars on repeat, I played this movie and the next one. I’m as surprised as you are as to how well adjusted I am.
The Kills
Harold – He takes a cleaver to the board on his chest…I mean his chest. Same as the ax kills, I’ll just put it as a slashing.
Edna – Impaled with a knitting needle, coming in from the back of her head and out her mouth through Jason’s fingers. This was one of the more subtle kills that always stuck out to me, no clue why.
Fox – Impaled through the neck with a pitchfork.
Loco – Stabbed in the gut with another pitchfork. C’mon Jason, show us some diversity like you did in the last one!
Vera – Shot in the eye with a harpoon. I don’t want to count this as being shot to death, it’s more of an impalement, but good lord he needs credit for shooting a moving target with a harpoon gun. I’m still going to put this as an impalement but man oh man.
Andy – This is one of the more iconic kills in not only the movie, but in horror altogether. He’s walking on his hands, looks up, sees Jason as he’s swinging his machete down. This basically cuts him from groin to gut and then you see it in another shot hanging over his girlfriends head? Just nasty. Oh, and it’s a slashing on this one.
Debbie – Killed much in the same way that we see Kevin Bacon die in the original, she’s impaled through the neck with a machete. I still wanna know how Jason folded Andy up there for the sting though. I know she was in the shower but how do you cram a body up there so quietly as to not disturb anyone? And then you hide under a hammock? It’s not a bed, it’s a hammock. How did she not see him?!? What about the blood in the hallway?
Shelley – Throat slit.
Chuck – Electrocuted on an exposed fuse box. No safety in these places.
Chili – Gets stabbed in the gut with a hot fire poker.
Rick – Gets his head crushed by Jason’s bare hands.
Ali – Gets slashed to death with a machete. I feel like this is the only time in this series where a machete is used almost properly.
Conclusion
Jason Voorhees kills 12 people in Friday the 13th Part III.
