This movie is…interesting. I’m not going to say it’s bad, I’m saving those words for a little further into the franchise. It had pretty weak reception when it was released because of the lack of Jason, but I don’t personally think that takes much away at all. Zombie / Supernatural slashers are fun, but generally I like the realistic ones the best. Part 5 is probably the sleaziest in the franchise, mostly from director Danny Steinmann who apparently only cared about the nudity and sexual content. I’m not saying that as much of a negative, some people really enjoy that about this movie. I guess just take that for what it is. This movie does, however, have the best characters in the movie. Not necessarily character actors (I think of the old Paramount films, The Final Chapter has that credit for having Crispen Glover and Corey Feldman) but actual characters. This is mostly a credit to the cast themselves really doing whatever they could to make a fun movie rather than the direction or screenplay of Steinmann or Martin Kitrosser (I’m looking over this guys film credits and MAN this guy had an awesome career). Either way, the characters really make this movie something different. Even though the kills were cut to allow for more nudity, they were still pretty good so lets take a look at them.
The Kills
Just want to point out, I am not counting the guys who died in the cold open as they were a dream. I’m also not counting Joey as he wasn’t killed by Roy. I mean Jason. I mean…screw it. Either way, I shouldn’t have to mention this after doing over 2 dozen of these, but honestly does it really matter?
- Vinnie – Performs fellatio on a road flare . I’m not using this analysis for any comparisons, it’s 100% for all of our entertainment, myself included so I don’t have to worry about it fitting into any cliché kill methods, but assaulting someone’s mouth with a road flare should probably happen more often, especially if you’re going to use the effect this movie gives you. Dude looks like a latex jack-o’-lantern. I will, however, still be using this to count effectively…so counted.
- Pete – Throat slit by a machete. At least this time it looks like it was the right side of it.
- Billy – Gets an ax to the back of his head. Pretty humane considering the cocaine, bet he didn’t feel a thing.
- Lana – Gets that ax to her gut. All that work flashing yourself in the mirror for naught.
- Raymond – Gets stabbed in the gut with a machete. His whole purpose in this movie was obviously to give us a reason for another angle of Deborah Voorhees’…talents. And die.
- Tina – Speaking of Deborah Voorhees, she’s stabbed in the eyes with a pair of hedge trimmers and then they get closed leaving a pretty nasty looking grape jelly effect on her eyes. Also, I recently watched the movie she directed last year, 13 Fanboy. It’s not too bad for a modern independent film, you should check it out.
- Eddie – Head is crushed between a tree and a belt. It’s a pretty unique way to try and kill someone.
- Anita – Gets her throat slit. Can’t even have fun with this one, really.
- Demon – I honestly can’t even tell what Roy’s using to jam into this outhouse, but he impales Demon with it.
- Junior – Loses his head.
- Ethel – Gets killed by a cleaver through her window.
- Jake – Gets a cleaver to the face. I was unfortunate enough to have been born the year this movie came out so it was spoiled to me that it wasn’t Jason before I ever watched it, but how would Friday fans not pick up how many cleaver kills are in this movie and just know something was different?
- Robin – Gets stabbed through the bottom of her bed, because this franchise needed this same thing a 3rd time.
- Violet – Stabbed in the groin. Oh wait, that’s right, we’re in a world where the MPAA completely neutered this franchise where a director (even a sleazy one) couldn’t picture a film in their vision. No, she’s stabbed in the stomach.
- Duke (as listed on IMDb…) – Found dead with his throat slit.
- Matt – Found dead with a spike in his head and his throat slit. I’m going to assume his throat was slit first and the spike was used turn his body into a decoration so I’m going to go with throat slit.
- George – His body gets slung through a windows with his eyes gouged out. I’m going to put this as unknown because those aren’t exactly vital organs.
Conclusion
Roy Burns kills 17 people in Friday the 13th Part V: The New Beginning.

I’m not going to include the comparison tables just yet, for the same reason I haven’t been showing comparison tables to Pamela Voorhees. I’m going to give Jason the chance to get full numbers and set it up for the 2009 remake Kills Analysis.
