According to IMDb, the show doesn’t launch until the 29th, but you can view the pilot right now exclusively on Horror-TV.com. The pilot was short and sweet, and really brought me back to a much simpler time of sitting around the house, drinking, watching a combination of late night Adult Swim or whatever cult classic I could get my hands on, because that’s exactly what this cartoon is. It’s a complete nostalgia trip. It’s the Addams family meets the Manson family, and every character and setting piece is a call back to the genre.
You start off the with matron, Delores Carver voiced by the legendary Felissa Rose (best known for her portrayal as Angela in Sleepaway Camp and Sleepaway Camp IV, also Terrifier 2 which just released). The introduction seems very Carrie inspired, but after actually watching the episode she feels a lot more Morticia Addams, however between Felissa’s voice talents and the writing of Daniel Nation and Sam Cornette, the character fills a lot of niches in the genre while being a unique character in herself. Then you meet Victor, which is obviously Jason meets Leatherface. Mute (well, speaks only in grunts), menacing, and running a butcher shop. Perfect. Next is Uncle Jack, the ventriloquist that immediately gives you Dead Silence / Child’s Play vibes and so far is the comedic relief. We also get Damien, the vampire ‘vegan’. As crazy as that sounds, he appears to be the balance of the whole cast. Last is Eve which is Samara made over when you first look at her, but after watching the pilot I can only hope this gets fleshed out further. I was sold at the intro, being a huge fan of this style of raunchy adult cartoons and a fan of the horror genre, it’s like this cartoon was written for me.
It starts off a little slow, with probably the worst joke Little Nicky has to offer, but finishes strong doing exactly as a pilot should, letting you know what to expect from the main cast and what this setting has to offer. I’ve gotten a little insight on future episodes from the creator, but I’m with the rest of you and have to wait for them to be released.
Meat the Carvers was thought up around a decade ago by Dan Nations and Sam Cornette, both incredibly passionate horror/film enthusiasts who I’ve personally been inebriated with while binge watching horror movies / late night adult swim material. I look forward to seeing what these guys put out next.
