More Changes to ScreamCulture.com – Kill Comparison, YouTube, Reviews

I wanted to take a few minutes to update everyone on what’s been going on behind the scenes. Not a huge list of updates, but enough for me to get a few things off of my mind. Feel free to interact with me if you have further questions, but I’m hoping this makes everything I’ve got in the wings fairly transparent.

Kill Comparison

So sitting in the queue right now, I have 7 articles and that will probably grow a bit by the end of the evening. I’ve already written and scheduled the rest of the Saw Kills Analysis series as well as the Jigsaw VS Michael Myers Kill Comparison, which I’m pretty hyped to release. Also in the queue is a Friday the 13th Part 2 review and the Kill Analysis to Part 2 and III to move further along with the Friday the 13th franchise.

Spoiler alert to the rest of this update, some of these articles will be changed for future use. I “probably” won’t be updating previously written articles, but simply evolving future ones that I write. If you view the first few Kill Analysis and compare those to the ones I’ve been producing, you’ll see what I mean by evolve. I surely hope that people would agree that the later entries of the Halloween franchise were easier to digest than the earlier entries as well as being a bit more entertaining to read. All of this said, I’ve got the Kill Comparison written for Jigsaw VS Michael Myers and other than a minor edit here and there I won’t be changing the format. I will, however, be changing it up a bit for future ones that I do. The reason for this is…

YouTube Presence / Other Projects

There’s no easy way to broadcast this, but I’m going to start producing content and publishing on YouTube (link to the channel at the bottom of every page).

While I’ve always enjoyed the platform, I never in a million years thought I’d ever even consider being a creator for it. Recent events have greatly influenced a step in a new direction, not only for the website, but my goal as a brand in general. When I first took on this project a month ago, my goal was to create a blog for horror with a twist that I haven’t really seen before, and one that I’ve really enjoyed doing even though I’ve barely begun. As I produce more content for the website, it’s taken on a higher and higher quality at what I feel is a fairly rapid rate and I could easily see this website taking off by this time next year as I invest more time and money and produce more and more quality content. What I am finding as I produce more and more content here, is that a lot of the best content I can produce is at a fairly rapid rate, which is great as it leaves me open for other endeavors. The Kills Analysis articles take me upwards of 1-2 hours a piece for example and while some of the reviews have taken upwards of 8 hours to do complete production research and to research critical responses to compare, that is still a fairly short amount of time to publish content of the quality I am after.

Something else that has influenced this, I posted an article a few weeks ago about a cartoon that was recently published, Meat the Carvers (only viewable right now on Horror-TV), and the director of the cartoon, Dan Nations, asked me to help a little bit on future episodes of the show. With my musical background, I’ve taken over duties as the composer of the show. After writing several themes including a new version of the opening and credit themes, he asked me to plug them in. I’ve been writing music the majority of my life but never have I worked with video editing software. I’ve actually been fairly intimidated by the thought of trying. Well, long story short I figured it out fairly quickly and not only did I get it but I really enjoyed it. After showing him an episode of his cartoon with some music that I rendered into it, I realized that this was something I could get decent at.

That said, I’m going to start publishing videos as a companion to the website. As much as I hate the sound of my own voice, I’ve already recorded and edited my first video that I’ll be publishing with the first episode of the Kill Comparison, Jigsaw VS Michael Myers which will go live on the 18th (a week from the day this update is posted).

Reviews

This change will also heavily influence how I handle reviews. So far, I’ve only posted reviews for movies that I like even though I’ve posted Kill Analysis articles for several that I really didn’t. That’s about to change. Also, I’ve been using a point system which is pretty common place in written reviews. This is a great system to go with if you are trying to compare movies, but honestly even a low scoring movie doesn’t really mean it’s bad. For example I’d recommend Terrifier 2 to any grindhouse fan yet I gave it fairly low marks. I really enjoyed the movie but don’t regret giving it those low marks and being critical towards the movies faults. To better promote the more common template that is used on YouTube, that’s going to change as well. I’ll be giving my thoughts on basically the same categories but instead of averaging a score, I’ll simply rate a movie by how much I would recommend it.

I’ve already written reviews for the original Friday the 13th and the first sequel, as I’ve mentioned, and they will could possibly get released as is until the new format drops. I won’t, however, be releasing part III until I do a new version of those 2, so it will look kind of weird, but I will have 2 reviews for those first 2 entries. This post might age poorly, and there’s a possibility that I can get both new versions done before the Part 2 review is scheduled to drop (It’s scheduled for the 21st, so who knows) My goal by the time everything is said and done is to have the new reviews up and the old reviews gone.

I easily spent 8 hours doing those old reviews. The new format should take about half of the time, but I’ll end up with a much shorter article accompanied by a video format that will likely be most of the content in itself.

Enough rambling, I have work to do. Hopefully this excites some people as much as it does me, and I really think that a lot of my humor will be better spent in dialogue than with typing. Until next time!
