With the last entry of the Hoffman quadrilogy, I’m going to count a lot of the random traps that have nothing to do with the primary game as his. For example the one in the open, surely this love triangle hasn’t been going on for more than 4 years since John died and he didn’t order Hoffman to kill them? Also, the scene with the late Chester Bennington, I’m going to say it’s safe to assume Hoffman targeted that group as well. I’m sticking to the rules of I’m only counting John as killing the people he had files for.
Something I noticed while writing this: This movie has a Nina, a Dina, a Kara, a Tara, and a Sara. How lazy was Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan being when they wrote these character names?
The Kills
John Kramer (Jigsaw)
- Nina – KIAT – She’s impaled in the neck at 4 angles with a bunch of spikes. The point of the game was to get the key out of her stomach, which was attached to a fish hook that Bobby has to pull through her esophagus. The more she screamed the further the spikes would be pushed in. This is kind of an inescapable trap, I’m fairly certain even if she was quite the hook alone hit something and she would bleed out either way.
- Suzanne – KIAT – She’s on a table that’s being rotated into 3 spikes, one aiming at her mouth and the other two aiming at her eyes, Zombi style. To stop this, Bobby has to lift some weights that cause spikes to go into his side and hold it for 60 seconds. Today must be leg day because he doesn’t hold it for long enough, so she is killed.
- Cale – KIAT – In this trap, Cale has a chain noose locked around his neck and is blindfolded, and Bobby is given the key. Bobby has to direct Cale to him over a few boards suspended over a huge hole in the floor, with a misstep obviously meaning certain doom for Cale. If the chain isn’t removed in 60 seconds, it will be pulled to where Cale is hung regardless of if he fell or not. Bobby tries to direct Cale to him, but as the time runs out decides the only way is to toss the key at Cale. Cale doesn’t catch the key and he ends up running out of time, getting hung.
- Joyce – KIAT – Bobby has to recreate the trap he lied about and hoist himself up on hooks using his pecs to hold his weight, otherwise his wife, Joyce, will get incinerated in a huge metal oven. Well, apparently your pectoral muscles aren’t strong enough to lift the weight of your entire body because he has exactly one less wife right now.
Mark Hoffman
- Dina – KIAT – She’s in a love triangle and her two lovers are attached to a large saw with her suspended over top. They can either choose to leave the saw in the middle and kill Dina, or fight for control and kill each other. They choose bro’s before ho’s and Dina gets cut in half. As mentioned in the Saw VI kill analysis, I’m going to count this as Hoffman’s game, spite fan theories. Fan theories just aren’t definitely cannon.
- Kara, Dan, Jake, Evan – KIAT – This is probably one of the coolest trap sequences in the franchises, in probably the worst movie (I barely count Jigsaw or Spiral as being part of the series, so there’s that). Evan is tasked to rip the flesh off of his back in order to stop the car he’s in from moving or basically kill all of his neo-Nazi friends. He fails, so the car kicks off, crushing Kara’s head. Then a chain that’s attached to the car rips off Dan’s jaw, then the car plows through Jake and crashes, sending Evan flying through the windshield. I have fun with 2fers, but a 4fer? Fantastic.
- Alex – KIAT – To survive this game, Alex and Sidney have to knock the other into a bunch of lawnmowers before the other can do the same. Sidney wins. This is in a flashback, I’m just going to assume this was a Hoffman game because it doesn’t really say otherwise and Hoffman has been running the show for 4 years now.
- Homeless guy – Shot to death in a flashback.
- Gibson + the 2 other cops in the room – Shot to death in a booby trap.
- Dr. Heffner – Stabbed in the bottom of the jaw.
- Coroner Worker – Stabbed in the bottom of the jaw.
- 5 more cops – Poisoned as the room is filled with gas.
- Random other guy in the police station – Stabbed in the bottom of the jaw. Again. At least this guy makes a funny “I’m dying!” face as he’s getting stabbed.
- Palmer – Neck snapped.
- Another cop – Gets stabbed in the bottom of the jaw. I think we figured out Hoffman’s kink. Do they teach this in the police academy?
- Rogers – Shot in the eye in a pretty funky effect. I don’t understand the effects in this movie at all compared to every other film in this franchise.
- Jill – KIAT – I’m counting this as a trap kill, however, she’s definitely murdered. She’s put in the reverse bear trap and Hoffman stands there to ensure it goes off. It does in pretty gnarly fashion. I think I found this films effects budget.
